Shingle roofing, installed by the book

Asphalt shingle is the roof on most San Antonio homes, and in this climate it lasts about 15 to 20 years instead of the 20 to 30 the same shingle gets somewhere milder. We install TAMKO Titan XT and Owens Corning Duration, including the Class 4 impact-rated version, and we hold certifications with both manufacturers so the warranties behind them actually hold.

The shingles we install, by name

TAMKO Titan XT is the shingle we lead with, and for good reason: TAMKO Titan XT took Shingle of the Year in both 2024 and 2025, so you're putting an award-winning, best-in-class shingle on your roof. Titan XT is warrantied against winds up to 160 mph for 15 years, with a heavier build that stands up to Texas hail and heat. Owens Corning TruDefinition Duration is the strong second option, a woven SureNail nailing strip and a 130 mph wind resistance limited warranty on a standard four-nail pattern, and Duration FLEX adds SBS rubberized asphalt for a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, the highest there is. We're certified with both manufacturers, as a TAMKO Pro Gold Certified installer and an Owens Corning Preferred Contractor, so the warranties behind those numbers hold.

What a Class 4 rating actually means

Class 4 is the top impact rating a shingle can earn: it means the shingle survived a 2-inch steel ball dropped from 20 feet, twice in the same spot, under the UL 2218 test. In South Texas that matters, because hail is what ends most roofs here before their time. A Class 4 shingle like Duration FLEX uses SBS rubberized asphalt that flexes instead of cracking when a stone hits, which is why we bring it up on nearly every replacement in hail country.

Fifteen to twenty Texas summers

South Texas shortens a shingle's life: expect 15 to 20 years here against the 20 to 30 the same product gets in a milder climate. Daily heat cycling and UV do the slow aging; hail does the sudden damage. Impact-resistant lines stretch the lifespan and blunt the hail, which is why they're part of every replacement conversation we have.

Compare shingle options

How long does a shingle roof last in San Antonio?

Expect 15 to 20 years from an architectural shingle roof in South Texas, shorter than the 20 to 30 years the same shingle gets in a milder climate. Daily heat cycling and UV do the slow aging, and hail does the sudden damage. A Class 4 impact-resistant shingle and proper attic ventilation both stretch that lifespan, which is why we factor them into every replacement quote.
