The benchmark is still April 12, 2016, when a storm dropped 4.5-inch stones near Helotes and did $1.4 billion in damage, the costliest hailstorm in Texas history. What you do in the first two days shapes how well your roof comes through. In order:
Stay off the roof. From the ground, look for missing shingles, debris, and dented gutters or window screens at eye level.
Check ceilings and the attic for stains, damp insulation, or drips, and photograph anything you find.
